Nash ended up taking me to a luxury apartment that wasn’t too far from Elevate. I only knew that because I spent the entire car ride watching the clock on the dashboard and we drove for less than fifteen minutes. When he parked the car in an underground garage, I waited as he stepped around to open the passenger door for me. We still hadn’t said a word to one another as we left the car, rode up in an elevator, and walked into what I assume was his parents’ place.

While he shut the door, I quickly took in the space we were in. It differed from his apartment in Brentson. This apartment was designed with a more traditional feel and had more neutral colors, like my apartment. It, too, had all the latest appliances and gadgets, and given our location, I knew it had to have cost a fortune.

Nash grabbed some mail and looked through it. I knew he probably didn’t give a damn about it and was doing it to make me more anxious.

I cleared my throat and said, “Give me my phone.”

“You’ll get it back when I say you do.”

“Give it back to me.”

The look on Nash’s face dared me to continue. His facial expression was downright frightening, and it brought back memories of my encounter with him in the library. My filter couldn’t catch my words in time, and I asked, “Are you going to kill me?”

Nash stared at me like I had grown another head. Then a smile appeared on his lips. “Do you want me to?”

“It might be a hell of a lot better than whatever you have planned for me if you had to resort to kidnapping me in order to do it.”

“I didn’t kidnap you.”

That did it. His nonchalant response set me off.

“You are the biggest piece of—”

He had no problem cutting me off. “Please tell me why I’m a piece of shit, Goodwin.”

“Because you set me up. There was no way I was going to get to your apartment within the hour if I was here. And you knew where I was because you had no problem showing up and dragging me out of there.”

“I didn’t drag you anywhere.”

“Okay, since you want to get technical, you picked me up and threw me into your car. Does that work?”

“Sure, if that helps you feel better.”

But he didn’t deny the rest of what I said. “You set this all up. Admit it.”

He shrugged. “I did.”

There was no remorse in his words. Instead, his response felt like a dare. Daring me to say anything else.

“Just start your fucking game.”

“Patience would look better on you.”

His words further irritated me to the point I wanted to throw something at him. Deep down, I knew it wasn’t smart and that he more than likely could dodge anything I threw because of his athletic ability, but it didn’t mean I didn’t want to try.

Nash walked toward me, and my body immediately stiffened. When he didn’t approach me like expected, I was left staring at him, wondering what he was going to do next.
